Cavaliers F/C, Anderson Varejao has been sidelined with an achilles injury since December 23rd, and was written off for the entire season, including the team’s playoff run. A recent report by ESPN’s Brian Windhorst suggests that the Brazilian big man may be activated as an emergency option during the finals. Along with giving the team another front-court option, Varejao has often been regarded as the heart of the team, and the energy from him suiting up could provide an emotional boost to the fans and his teammates.
Rushing Varejao back while the team is performing well, especially with his injury history, may not seem like a worthwhile risk to some. Forunately for Cleveland, achilles injuries are actually not of the variety in which the patient is more prone to it after corrective surgery.
Though a cleveland.com article by Chris Haynes refutes the rumor, Coach David Blatt didn’t shoot down the report. When asked, Blatt responded with his normal smirk, “Weirder things have happened”.
